neil kilby - contemporary art paintings and sculpture
biography
Here is a sample of my work. It spreads out across the last four years, the wood sculptures just the last year.
I was born in Birmingham on the 13th February 1952. From my early schooldays I always wanted to paint and draw. I can remember doing small oil paintings on plywood and using a matchstick as a brush. Unfortunately I never was able to follow it up and go on to learn to paint and draw with proper training.
Eventually after many different jobs, at the age of 23 I became a sign-writer where I vented my need to paint mainly on sign design and pub signs, plus painting as a hobby. But it wasn't until my wife died in 2002 from pancreatic cancer that I decided to go to France to start again.
There I started using a chain saw to sculpt wood and did as many paintings as I could. I think somewhere in my work there is a thought to capture the feelings and emotions that spread over my life. Also, now that I am back in Britain I am trying to go in a slightly different direction, using a canvas and building to give something that reaches out to the viewer.
I think a work of art is up to whoever to interpret how they feel about it so I hope you may like what I have done. If you want one of my pieces of art maybe you would e.mail me or phone me. I am also available for commissions.
